With many organizations utilising and reaping the benefits of cloud-based business applications, the need to monitor and control access without compromising productivity grows. We speak to Richard Walters, Chief Security Strategist at CensorNet, to discuss how its USS and MFA can help safeguard businesses in the cloud.

Could you explain briefly what CensorNet does and what it provides?

CensorNet is a security services vendor, headquartered in the UK, with offices in the US and across Europe. We provide solutions to address the most prolific threats facing organizations that perfectly fit with the way people work today.

Does CensorNet work with companies of varying size and number of endpoints?

CensorNet works with organizations with 2 or 3 to tens of thousands of users. Today we have over 4,000 happy customers in more than 47 countries around the world.

Could you explain what CensorNet’s Unified Security Service (USS) is? What benefit can it bring to organizations?

USS is a security platform that fully integrates Email Security, Web Security, Cloud Application Security and Multi Factor Authentication. The platform has been designed for companies and MSPs to simplify security – and security management. USS allows users the freedom to access the applications and data they need, with visibility for IT – and control where needed.

Does the USS address security and protect users who work remotely or who are mobile?

Yes – agents are installed on Windows and MAC OS X laptops that protect users when they’re on the road. For smartphones and tablets, traffic can be routed via CensorNet using VPN settings on the mobile device that can be configured manually or through Mobile Device Management / Enterprise Mobility Management products.

Does the implementation of the service reduce slower online response times and productivity?

The unique proxy-less architecture (although there is a proxy available if needed!) makes the solution extremely low latency. Users will not notice any difference in response times as they interact with web and cloud applications.

Does the USS provide analysis about usage, alerts or threats across email, web and applications?

USS provides comprehensive data visualisation and reporting - with alerting - across all core engines in a single portal. Dashboards are customisable and specific reports can be scheduled to run regularly. Analysis by time, user, device, web category, cloud application class, high risk actions, keywords, email volume, spam, malware – and more is all available in a single pane of glass view.

How does CensorNet’s Multifactor Athentication (MFA) work? And what are the benefits of an organisation installing it?

MFA works by sending users a real-time, session-specific OTP (One-Time Passcode) to their mobile phone via SMS, app, voice call, or email. Once the OTP has been validated, the user is granted access. It’s that simple! MFA looks at multiple factors surrounding each login such as time, geo-location and device.

And finally, is the MFA easy to install and manage? Is it a time-consuming process?

CensorNet’s MFA solution is notoriously easy to install and configure, and most customers are up and running within a few hours. The solution has had the benefit of nearly 10 years of continual development, enhancement and improvements – a significant amount of effort has gone in to ensuring the product is simple to implement.
