An informative Cognosec presentation

A highlight of this year’s event was the ‘Securing the Future’ seminar presented by Cognosec CTO Oliver Eckel. Here, Oliver began by highlighting the growing trend in digitalisation explaining, we’re connecting everything we know and own to the Internet and when everything is connected everyone is vulnerable. He went on to emphasize that 90 percent of malware goes undetected and 70 percent of critical infrastructure companies have been breached. Despite this, he believes the industries of the future will include robotics, autonomous vehicles, genomics, artificial intelligence and code-ification of money markets.

Oliver then questioned what is the future? And how do we secure it? Will we assume everything online is insecure – will this become the new normal? He then considered the pros and cons of adopting algorithms everywhere, discussed the future of big data and how it will become intertwined with cybersecurity, and deliberated on the adoption of the Internet of Things and how this could lead to hackers looking for the lowest common denominator vulnerabilities. He also explained how Biosensing would allow companies and governments to measure, capture and respond to human emotions accurately.

Reaching its conclusion, the presentation underlined the importance of cyber resilience that will ‘enable organizations to withstand significant cyberattacks and continue core operations’. Oliver also stressed that organizations need to have a consistent and iterative approach to identifying, assessing and managing cyber risk. He concluded by highlighting Cognosec’s approach based on the NIST cybersecurity framework – Identification, Protection, Dectection, Response, and Recovery.
